I'm not sure how many of you have heard about the book by Catherine Marshall, Christy, or even the television series based on it. The series came out in the early 90s, so I have memories of watching this show at a fairly young age. I always really enjoyed Christy because it has the same feel as Little House on the Prairie and even Anne of Green Gables. The story centers on Christy Huddleston, a city girl who is determined to make a difference by teaching the secluded children of Cutter Gap, Tennessee. The people of Cutter Gap are superstitious and at times dangerous people. But Christy finds true friendship with some of the women and children and is able to eventually win their trust and love.
Central characters in the story include Miss Alice, a missionary who is also ministering to the people in the cove. Christy loves and respects Miss Alice for her wise and biblical insight. Fairlight Spencer, a sweet woman in Cutter Gap, becomes Christy's faithful friend and confidante. Neil MacNeill is the hardworking doctor of the town, but his atheistic beliefs cause Christy to question her faith and trust in God. Young Rev. David Grantland is the exact opposite of Doc. MacNeill- while he sometimes questions his purpose at serving as pastor of Cutter Gap, he has a strong faith in the Lord and is a stable person in Christy's life.
While I don't agree with everything in this series, I love how it is for the most part family-friendly, although there are a few episodes that are more mature. What I also enjoy about the Christy series is that faith in God is presented as more than a feel-good, be-a-good-person philosophy. The TV series does not always stay true to the book or include all the Biblical aspects, but it's refreshing to watch a show that has more of a Christian theme.
So have any of you ever watched Christy? If so, what are your thoughts on it? The whole series is on amazon.com- it's a show I love watching over and over! I hope you will too if you see it in the near future. =)

Hello! :)
Hi, I was just doing some surfing when I came by. I like your site, it is really nice looking and I enjoy finding other believers online.
I have been meaning to buy the whole series, since I watched several of the episodes when I was younger. I also don't agree with everything, but it is a sweet show.
I read the book too--they are very different. Both have pros and both have cons, which is a fact in everything!
