God's Amazing Power

Psalm 93

The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty;

The LORD is clothed,

He has girded Himself with strength.

Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.

Your throne is established from of old;

You are from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O LORD,

The floods have lifted up their voice;

The floods lift up their waves.

The LORD on high is mightier

Than the noise of many waters,

Than the mighty waves of the sea.

Your testimonies are very sure;

Holiness adorns Your house,

O LORD, forever.

The other day, I went to the shore with my dear friend Neesie. Now I am used to the ocean with all of its might and power, but Neesie wasn't. As we stepped into the water and tried to jump all the strong waves that attempted to knock us down, we realized that we were no match for the powerful ocean. As I read this psalm in my devotions yesterday, I was struck by how God is so much bigger than we realize at times! HE created those magnificent, awe-inspiring, and many times, dangerous, ocean waves. HE made the ocean water that's a sparkling blue hue. HE made all the amazing creatures that live below the ocean's surface.

As much as I love the shore, there is always that danger involved when the waves pull at me, trying to draw me closer into the ocean. God is so much bigger and stronger than even the most powerful current though. This is an amazing thought to me. Just when I think there is no match comparable to such a spectacular show of wind, force, and water, I am reminded of the Creator, who lovingly crafted each of these.

So why do I doubt the Lord at times? When I witness His beautiful, awe-inspiring creation, why do I question His ability to guide me in my future? "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" (Matt 6:26) If the Lord takes such an interest in the smallest creature, will He not care for all my needs? What a mighty God we serve!

I sing the mighty power of God,

That made the mountains rise,

That spread the flowing seas abroad,

And built the lofty skies.

I sing the wisdom that ordained

The sun to rule the day;

The moon shines full at God's command,

And all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord,

Who filled the earth with food,

Who formed the creatures through His Word,

And then pronounced them good.

Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed,

Wherever I turn my eye,

If I survey the ground I tread,

Or gaze upon the sky.

There's not a plant or flower below,

But makes Thy glories known,

And clouds arise, and tempests blow,

By order from Thy throne;

While all that borrows life from Thee

Is ever in Thy care;

And everywhere that man can be,

Thou, God art present there.

Sara, these are some good and true thoughts. Our God is indeed so powerful, and so majestic.

I was so convicted by your last paragraph about doubting the Lord and questioning Him, despite the fact that we see His care and power all around us and we know He is on the throne! It is so good to be reminded of these things often. Thank you! And I'm glad you girlies had a wonderful day at the beach.
