Christmas Thoughts

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.” ~Luke 1:46-55

I love Mary's song of praise in Luke 1. For a young girl, what wisdom she had! I've read many blog posts from dear friends who are concerned about the commercialism of Christmas. It does seem like our society has truly forgotten the real meaning of this holiday, doesn't it? My siblings and I decided to watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas" tonight. For a cartoon, it really has some deep themes! If you haven't seen this short film, Charlie Brown is lamenting the fact that Christmas has become so commercialized. While feeling inferior because he just can't seem to do anything right, his friend Linus points out the reason for the season. He quotes from Luke 1:8-14:

~Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”~

I hope and pray you all have a wonderful Christmas reflecting on the mercies of a Heavenly Father who gave His only Son for us. He truly is a wonderful Savior!

Merry Christmas!!

For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

In the Good Old Summertime

I thought I'd show you a clip from In the Good Old Summertime. For all you musical lovers, enjoy! (remember to turn my music off on the side)

'Tis the Season...

I guess I'm a little overdue for a post. To start with, I am officially done for the semester! I had my last exam tonight (and it was hard) but now it's all over. I thought I'd share some pictures of what's been going on this month. Christmas is my favorite holiday, so I've been having so much fun buying presents (I have them wrapped or put in bags already!), listening to Christmas music, and watching Christmas movies.
What are some of your favorite Christmas films? If you look back in my archives from December 2007, I made a post about some of my favorite Christmas movies. I could probably add a couple new ones to my list, but my top favorites are It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, The Bishop's Wife, and the Nativity Story. And Neesie, I'm sorry I fell asleep watching that at your house the other night! After seeing most of In the Good Old Summertime last week, I'd have to say that is becoming another favorite of mine. Well, here are some pictures.

Matt, Rachel, and Melissa at my grandma's house on Thanksgiving. Isn't her tree pretty?

Melissa waiting for us to decide on which Christmas tree we should pick.

My Dad cutting it down.

Now the fun part...decorating it. Matt and I are always the last ones decorating the tree- we love doing it!

The finished product.

Our Christmas village

This is our Christmas picture for 2008.

My brother and I went to a fun brunch at Bev's house

My friend, Neesie (and Bev's younger sister), is turning 16 soon, so I went to her party over the weekend. The theme was from It's a Wonderful Life. It was very cute!

Laura came for the party too. Yay for friends!

Happy Birthday Neesie!
